Decarbonization of Ukraine's economy, joining the goals and ways of implementing the European Hydrogen Strategy is one of the new main areas of activity of CUI. Analytical studies and techno-economic assessment of the current state of the carbon-oriented energy industry of Ukraine, ways out of a critical situation using alternative types of energy and green hydrogen, organizational measures on the above-mentioned issues are on the agenda of technical experts and specialists of CUI.

CUI is one of the co-founders of EASTERN EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF HYDROGEN ECONOMY (HYDROGEN BRIDGE ASSOCIATION). The main goal of HYDROGEN BRIDGE Association is to create favorable conditions for the use of hydrogen obtained from renewable energy sources using carbon-neutral technologies as a means of accumulating, transporting and consuming energy by the population, transport and various production areas. Thus, energy independence of Ukraine is ensured, the improvement of the ecological situation in Ukraine and within the limits of Ukraine's obligations regarding directives in the European Union by stimulating an increase in the share of renewable energy sources in production of electricity in the domestic and foreign markets.

HydroGENesis project is currently being elaborated by HYDROGEN BRIDGE Association, consisting of two mutually complementary models of the hydrogen economy development:

1. HYDROGEN VALLEY

Hydrogen Valley implies installation of Renewable Energy facilities in the territories of Ukraine affected by military actions, with subsequent production of Green Hydrogen both for the domestic Ukrainian market and for export to Europe, which will foster, as well, replacing of carbon economy in EU.

1. MODEL OF TRANSFORMATION OF THE ENERGY STRUCTURE OF UKRAINE

The transformation model implies strengthening the stability and independence of the energy system through the creation of the second low-voltage level of the operating energy system based on carbon-free generation and ensuring the transition of the entire economy to net zero emissions

HYDROGEN BRIDGE Association participated in elaboration of conception “Ukraine – European Energy Hub” within which 2050 Energy Strategy was proposed. These materials were visually presented to a wide range of community at Ukraine Recovery Conference held in London on June 21-22, 2023.

We are sure that the full transition of Ukraine to a hydrogen economy by 2050 is possible and thanks to the developed gas transportation system of Ukraine, it will contribute to the decarbonization of both Ukraine and the EU as a whole.
